Your role -
Assist the Director of Education in managing and developing continuing legal education (CLE) programs for member attorneys. Manage convenient learning programming such as audio and web seminars, podcasts and live webcasts of in-person conferences. Work with conference committees, and play an active role in identifying speakers, program content and other educational materials. Collaborate with various internal teams to identify new and relevant educational programs and initiatives. Assist with Annual Conference program management, and serve as an editor for conference handbooks.
Your background -
2-4 years’ immigration policy and/or practice experience. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in distance education practices, including CLE accreditation and reporting. Exceptional oral and written communication skills. Prior editing experience is a plus.

All over the world controversies continue to beset the practice of peacebuilding. Peace versus justice. Religious versus secular. Individual versus structural justice. Forgiveness versus retribution. Overcoming these dilemmas requires more than reforming institutions but rather new thinking about the questions: what is justice? how is it related to the building of peace?
Answers to these questions lie in the twin concepts of reconciliation and restorative justice.

The symposium explores their potential for overcoming the familiar controversies and offering guidance for peacebuilding. It will explore as well what these concepts have to say about punishment, accountability, apology, forgiveness, confession, truth telling, human rights, international law, and other issues and practices. Participation is open to students, scholars, and practitioners interested in transitional justice and peacebuilding.

The symposium is a project of the Program on Religion and Reconciliation at the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, University of Notre Dame in collaboration with the Restorative Peacebuilding Project of the Working Party on Restorative Justice of the Alliance of NGOs on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in New York.

It is directed by Jennifer Llewellyn, Schulich School of Law, Dalhousie University and Daniel Philpott, Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, University of Notre Dame. It is co-organized by the Institute for International Law and Justice and The Center for Human Rights and Global Justice at New York University School of Law.

Spring 2012 Legal Internship at The Vera Institute of Justice

The intern will work closely with the Director of the Vera Institute of Justice’s Washington, DC Office as well as staff who work on a variety of criminal justice issues. The intern will attend Capitol Hill hearings and briefings to analyze and report on the information presented. The intern will also prepare written memoranda; assist in preparing presentations that will be made to senior policymakers, track legislation and perform some administrative tasks. There may be opportunities to attend meetings, observe staff working, and participate in strategy meetings.
Candidates should be law or graduate students who are creative thinkers and able to work independently. Effective interpersonal, organizational and writing skills are essential. Students should possess a strong interest in social justice, program design, and criminal justice policy.
The intern should be available at least 16 hours per week. The hours can be arranged around class schedules or other requirements of the student’s academic programs.

LJD Week is scheduled for November 14 - 17, 2011, at World Bank headquarters in Washington DC, and will include: a three-day International Forum on November 14 - 16 with an opening session followed by parallel sessions and a plenary round table of General Counsels, and conclude with a training day on November 17.
